• 1 3/4 cup oats
  • 3 egg whites
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened apple sauce
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 2 tsp white vinegar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2-3/4 cup dark chocolate chips

I can’t believe how delicious these healthy double chocolate chip brownies are. Healthy and delicious aren’t typically terms that go hand and hand, but here it does, and the recipe could not be simpler.

I’m not going to lie to you guys, these were supposed to be muffins. But they didn’t come out like a muffin at all, in fact they came out like the most amazing, healthy, delicious brownies I’ve ever tasted. Quite frankly this is the best mistake ever made in the history of the planet. Well, maybe my Great Grandpa Leslie screwing up a machine at the Old Dutch factory and accidentally creating one of Canada’s beloved snack foods “popcorn twists”  was the greatest mistake, but these muffins turned brownies come in a close second.

Combine apple sauce, yogurt, egg whites, honey, vanilla and vinegar in a large mixing bowl.

Add in your oats, baking powder, salt and cocoa. Slowly pour in your hot water and combine. Add in 1/2 a cup of chocolate chips, save 1/4 cup and put aside.

The batter is very liquidy but that is completely normal so do not be alarmed!

Bake in a 350 degree oven for 10 minutes, remove and top each brownie with the remaining chocolate chips. Return to oven for an additional 5-10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the middle of a brownie comes out clean. Cool for 10-15 minutes and enjoy!
