The best part about easy baked mac and cheese is the crunchy bits on top – am I right or am I right? Well this recipe for cheap and easy baked mac and cheese has lots of crunch and lots of ooey-gooey cheesy goodness underneath. Cheap and easy baked mac and cheese? The ULTIMATE comfort food.
Directions for Cheap and Easy Baked Mac and Cheese
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Add in 1 lb of elbow macaroni pasta to a pot of boiling water, stirring occasionally.
In a skillet over medium heat begin to make a roux with 2 tablespoons flour and 2 tablespoons of butter or margarine. Stir together and allow to cook for a few minutes to get rid of the raw flour taste. Slowly stir in 1 1/2- 2 cups of room temperature milk, it’s up to you how much milk you use depending on the desired consistency of your cheese sauce but try not to make it too runny. Stir in 2 cups of shredded cheddar cheese until melted. Add in seasoning of your choice, I went with some red pepper flakes and pepper – you can use whatever you and your family loves.
Drain your cooked elbow macaroni noodles and add into the sauce. Add sauce coated noodles into a baking dish and bake for 40-45 minutes.
When your easy baked mac and cheese comes out of the oven it will be one of the best comfort foods you’ve ever eaten. The crunchy topping combined with the gooey cheese makes for a great dinner – and great as leftovers too!
